The Art of the Perfect Shirt

Every Nicolas Rota shirt requires over 3 hours of artisan work and 22 manufacturing steps. The difference isn't just visible — you can feel it.

Thread Stitching: Our Defining Signature

We use traditional thread stitching, a tailoring technique that very few shirtmakers in Italy still master. Unlike standard industrial stitching:

  • Greater resistance – stitches follow the natural elasticity of the fabric
  • Superior durability – no breaking points even after hundreds of washes
  • Invisible finish – impeccable aesthetics on collars, cuffs, and side vents

This process requires an additional 45 minutes per shirt, but guarantees quality that stands the test of time.

Why Our Fabrics

We work with Canclini, Thomas Mason, and Albini – three Italian centres of excellence with distinct philosophies:

  • Canclini – soft hand feel, superior breathability, ideal for intensive daily wear
  • Thomas Mason – compactness and resilience, holds its shape even without ironing
  • Albini – sustainable innovation and premium finishes

We don't choose fabrics for the name, but for real performance: comfort, durability, ease of care. Every fabric is personally tested before entering the collection.

22 Steps of Artisan Craftsmanship

  1. Hand cutting – each piece is oriented following the fabric grain
  2. Collar preparation – 7 passes to guarantee perfect shape retention
  3. Thread-stitched buttonholes – 3x greater resistance compared to standard buttonholes
  4. Button attachment – Australian mother-of-pearl buttons secured with internal reinforcement
  5. Reinforced side vents – thread stitching that prevents tearing
  6. Final quality control – every shirt is inspected at 22 critical points

🇮🇹 100% Certified Made in Italy

Every step – from cutting to final assembly – takes place in our Italian workshop. We don't outsource even the simplest stages. This allows us to:

  • Control every detail of quality
  • Guarantee ethical working conditions
  • Preserve artisan techniques on the verge of extinction
  • Offer customisations impossible for industrial production

Invest in Quality That Lasts

A Nicolas Rota shirt costs slightly more because it is built to last years, not seasons. The thread stitching, artisan reinforcements, and fabric selection ensure that every shirt improves with wear, rather than deteriorating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is thread stitching better?

Thread stitching follows the natural elasticity of the fabric, distributing tension evenly. This prevents breakage at stress points (collar, cuffs, vents) and guarantees 2–3 times greater durability.

How do you recognise thread stitching?

Look at the back of the collar or the side vents: thread stitching has a slightly irregular but extremely compact appearance, with no skipped stitches. To the touch, it feels softer and more flexible.

Is Canclini inferior to Thomas Mason or Albini?

No. Canclini excels in softness and breathability, ideal for warm climates and daily use. Thomas Mason offers greater structure, Albini sustainable innovation. These are different philosophies, not quality hierarchies.

How long does a Nicolas Rota shirt last?

With proper care (gentle washing, natural drying), our shirts maintain their shape and colour for 5–10 years of regular wear. We have customers who have been wearing the same shirts for over 7 years.
