The Art of the Perfect Shirt
22 quality checks. 3 hours of craftsmanship. A shirt that lasts a lifetime.

The NICOLAS ROTA Artisanal Process

From Fabric Selection to the Finished Shirt
Every NICOLAS ROTA shirt is born from a process requiring over 3 hours of artisanal work and passes through 22 quality control stages. There are no shortcuts when it comes to excellence.
Stage 1: Fabric Selection
We work exclusively with the world's most prestigious textile manufacturers: Thomas Mason (since 1796), Albini, and other historic Italian suppliers. Every roll of fabric is personally inspected before purchase.
Stage 2: Hand Cutting
Unlike industrial production that uses automatic cutting machines, every piece is cut by hand following the grain of the fabric. This ensures the shirt retains its perfect shape even after years of wear.
Stage 3: Component Preparation
Collars, cuffs, plackets, and side gussets are prepared with the highest quality fusible interlinings, positioned with millimetric precision.
Stages 4–18: Artisanal Assembly
Every seam is executed by expert shirtmakers using traditional machines. The 1mm topstitching on collars and cuffs requires years of experience to master.
Stages 19–21: Hand Finishing
- Sewn and finished buttonholes
- Mother-of-pearl buttons sewn using the "giglio" technique (4 thread passes per button forming a flower pattern)
- NICOLAS ROTA logo hand-embroidered on the side gussets
Stage 22: Final Quality Control
Every shirt is inspected at 22 critical points before being approved for shipment.
The Details That Make the Difference

1mm Topstitching
The stitching on collars and cuffs is executed 1mm from the edge — a finish that only the finest shirtmakers can achieve. This detail is not merely aesthetic: it guarantees greater durability and a cleaner line.
Comparison:
• Industrial shirt: 3–5mm topstitching
• NICOLAS ROTA artisanal shirt: 1mm topstitching
Genuine Australian Mother-of-Pearl Buttons
Each button is crafted from authentic Australian mother-of-pearl and engraved with the NICOLAS ROTA logo. They are sewn using the "giglio" technique (4 thread passes forming a flower), ensuring superior hold and a refined aesthetic detail.
Comparison:
• Industrial plastic buttons: 20–30 washes
• NICOLAS ROTA mother-of-pearl buttons: unlimited lifespan
Collars and Cuffs: Traditional Construction
Our French collars and angled cuffs are built with premium fusible interlinings that maintain their shape without stiffening the fabric. After every wash, they return to their original form.
Side Gussets with Hand-Embroidered Logo
The double side gussets carry the NICOLAS ROTA logo hand-embroidered — a detail invisible when the shirt is worn, but a testament to the obsessive attention given to every component.
4mm Hem
The bottom hem is folded and sewn at 4mm — a measurement requiring greater precision but guaranteeing a perfect drape and increased long-term durability.
